These are the crossroads.
In front, a less traveled road, that goes straight ahead into the distance and disappears into unknown realms of possibilities. To either side, another road likewise going in an endless distance in either direction.
The sun is blazing hot. You can hear the sound of the soles of your shoes melting as they sizzle on the hot asphalt below, sweat dripping profusely down your forehead and off your cheek bones. You feel the heat as it bakes your skin, leaving it in a rough and hardened state. Your throat dry and parched as if you had swallowed a glass full of the desert sand.
All you can think about is the pains of the road you have just traveled. You look back to see where you have been. The road full of chaos. Broken and cracked as if an earthquake had ripped it to shreds. Pieces of your life strewn around like dead bodies on a battlefield. And in some places you see pools of blood and sweat, your blood and sweat, that had drained from your body as you worked tirelessly to build a life for yourself. Blood and sweat that had been forced from you with every blow life had thrown your way, as if an ogre’s spiked club had mercilessly beaten you over and over again.
You are at a moment of truth.
Which road do you take? Do you continue down this same road, knowing nothing of the stretch ahead? Do you continue forging your life as you had, expecting that at times you may be beaten down again? Knowing that there may be pitfalls along the way?
Or do you take a different route? One that could prove to be just as treacherous and merciless. Maybe you take that road because you are tired of going the same direction. You want to try something new. Give something else a try. Perhaps the route seems easier to take than the one you had taken to this point.
The thing to remember, when making the decision on the road to take, is the most important thing to never forget…
No matter the road you take. No matter the challenge that road may appear to offer. No matter how unknown and uncertain either choice presents itself as, the one thing that still remains constant is you. You either choose to continue down life’s past in a lost state, with pieces of yourself strewn everywhere on the road behind you, or, you pick up those pieces, put yourself back together and begin your trek down the path of choice.
YOU are the key ingredient. YOU are the traveler. YOU are the navigator. YOU are the one who has made it this far. Only YOU can decide to continue. You must decide for YOU. And YOU decide whether you’re strong enough to continue or not.
The decision on which road to take will always be there. It awaits you like a lion ready to pounce on its prey. But until YOU are there to make the choice, you will continue to wander aimlessly without direction, always wondering if you could have made a better choice.
The crossroads await you.
