Sliding into the deepest, darkest corner of consciousness. The cloak of darkness gathers in, clouding his vision. A heightened sense of apprehension consumes his thoughts.
Anxiety fills his heart as a thick shroud of darkness drapes the stage of his mind, except for one point of convergence, where a small fulcrum of light illuminates a face, blank of expression. The eyes were deep, dark, and ominous. At a moments glance they could drown the soul of a man in complete despair. He avoids eye contact for fear of getting lost in a stupor. But no matter how much energy he exerts, he can not completely avoid the gaze.
An unspeakable terror swells within him. Not understanding what this premonition represents, he attempts to call for help. As he does, he realizes that his tongue is restrained, thick and twisted, unable to form recognizable syllables. He is powerless to turn away from the horrific gaze affixed on him.
He attempts, again, to free himself from the shroud of darkness that has consumed his mind. He desires with all his energy to escape the haunting, foreboding gaze.
…In a moment, he awakens in a cold sweat. After a brief moment to gather his wits, the realization that it was but a night tremor settles upon him. He inhales and exhales deeply, expelling the tension from his aching muscles. Troubled, he ponders on the events of the night, haunted by the gaze – by eyes of emptiness, of consuming fear. Eyes filled with a deep, dark, unknown evil that desires to enslave him.
A sudden sense of apprehension overpowers him. Although merely a dream, he can’t help but feel the almost tangibility of this phenomenon of existence.
Those eyes… consuming, dreadful, foreboding, horrific and powerful…
Eyes that were… familiar…
